Silverlight: This is a Microsoft product and free to install. You can download by google this. Like flash this is also used on many websites.
Skype and other messengers: There are many messenger programs available online for free like Skype, Yahoo Messenger, Rediff Messenger, Google chat. All these programs are free and can be use for online text chatting and video calls and these things are free. You can also make phone calls and sms to actual phone numbers but you will need to buy credits for this.
Downloaders: There are many downloader applications, which you could use to download the content faster and there are some other facilities available like pause and resume, scheduling etc.
